2025 IBSF World Snooker Championship
Reigning World Champion Muhammad Asif is all set to return to Doha this November to defend his crown at the 2025 IBSF World Men’s Snooker Championship. The Pakistani cueist, already a three-time World Champion, will be competing in Stage-II of the championship, scheduled from 8th to 13th November.
Asif’s remarkable consistency in global snooker is well-documented. He first etched his name in history by winning the world title in 2012, reclaimed it in 2019, and captured his third world crown in 2024, on the same Doha stage by defeating Ali Ghareghouzlo of Iran in a thrilling final. Adding to his impressive résumé, Asif also holds the current World Masters (40+) Snooker Champion title.
Since last year, The World Snooker Championships now follow a two-stage format. Stage-I (scheduled from 3 to 6 November), features players vying for 16 qualification spots, while Stage-II brings together last year’s top achievers and champions from various international official competitions for a round-robin phase followed by knockout rounds to decide the world’s best.
The competition this year promises to be intense, with a star-studded lineup of cueists from across the globe. Among the frontrunners are India’s Pankaj Advani, a 3-time World Snooker Champion with 28 world titles across disciplines, Iran’s Ali Ghareghouzlo (2024 runner-up) and Amir Sarkhosh (three-time World No.2), Malaysia’s Lim Kok Leong (2022 World Champion), and Qatar’s own Ali Alobaidli, the 2023 World Champion and home favourite.
Other prominent contenders include Mohamed Shehab (UAE), Renat Denkha (USA), Pan Yiming (China), Mina Awad (Egypt), Harvey Chandler (England), World U21 Champion Sebastian Milewski (Poland), Yongjun Park (Korea), and World 6-Red Champion Riley Powell (Wales).
