Ali Alobaidli – 2023 World Snooker Champion

A much-awaited dream came true for everyone associated with snooker in Qatar when their star player Ali Alobaidli became the the World Snooker Champion for 2023.

Ali started playing snooker 17 years ago and has been to quarter-finals on multiple occasions but it was his day today when he won the final 6-1 to lift the maiden World Snooker title for Qatar.

He played in the final against Cheung Ka Wai of Hong Kong China and started his campaign with a break of 56 points to win the first frame 58-34. Cheung responded with a break of 66 in the second frame to mark his presence in the final match.

After that Ali put in extra effort to secure the third frame 75-54 and then went ahead to score two breaks of 53 and 72 to lead 4-1. Even in the sixth frame, Ali dominated and secured that too to cement the lad 5-1.

Cheung had some recovery chances in the 7th frame, but at crucial stages, he made a few errors, which Ali capitalized very well to convert into winning the frame and title as well.
