Asian Heyball Championship 2025 Concludes in Amman
Sundeep Gulati crowned Men’s Champion, Ganbat Gan Orkhon clinches Women’s title
The curtains came down on a thrilling week of top-class cue sports action at the Asian Heyball Championship 2025, with India’s Sundeep Gulati and Mongolia’s Ganbat Gan Orkhon emerging as the new continental champions in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively. The championship, hosted at the Myna Tyche Hotel in Amman, witnessed intense battles, dramatic finishes, and several memorable performances from Asia’s finest cueists.
In the men’s final, Sundeep Gulati produced a clinical performance to defeat Ali Pordel of Iran 7-2, capturing his maiden international Heyball title. The Indian cueist, who has been in stellar form throughout the tournament, maintained a calm and confident approach in the final, displaying excellent cue control and tactical precision.
Gulati’s campaign in Amman was marked by consistency and resilience. Except for a nervy semi-final encounter, where he saw his 6-2 lead erased before eventually clinching the match in a 3-1 shootout, the Indian champion dominated his opponents with remarkable ease. This title marks his second major triumph of the year, following his victory at the inaugural National Heyball Championship of India, cementing his position among Asia’s elite cueists.
The men’s bronze medals were shared by Arfan Dad of Pakistan and Ahmed Aloqaili of Jordan, both of whom delivered commendable performances to reach the semi-final stage. Ahmed’s medal, in particular, was celebrated by the home crowd as a proud moment for Jordanian cue sports.
In the women’s division, Mongolia’s Ganbat Gan Orkhon continued her remarkable form to lift the Asian Women’s Heyball title, defeating defending champion Waratthanun Sukritthanes of Thailand 4-3 in a tense final. Ganbat started strong, taking the opening two racks, and maintained her composure to stay ahead throughout the match, sealing a famous victory that underlined her rising stature in Asian cue sports.
The women’s bronze medals were shared by India’s seasoned campaigner Vidya Pillai and young talent Anupama Ramachandran, both semi-finalists who showcased fine performances throughout the tournament.
The presentation ceremony was graced by ACBS President Mohamed Salem Alnuaimi, alongside Mr. Jihad Al-Qutishat, Vice President of the Jordan Olympic Committee. They were joined by ACBS Senior Vice President Alamgir Shaikh, Mr. Michael Alkhoury, Secretary General of ACBS, Mr. Nasser Al-Hadid, President of the Jordan Billiard Sports Federation, and Ms. Dima Qaisi, Vice President and Mr. Tareq Tareefi Secretary of the Jordan Federation, who collectively presented the medals and felicitated the medal winners.
The Asian Heyball Championship 2025, organized under the banner of the Asian Confederation of Billiard Sports (ACBS), concluded with high praise for its competitive standard and flawless organization. The championship not only marked a new chapter for Heyball in Asia but also reflected the growing depth of talent and international appeal of the sport across the continent.
